The Flip Flopper-in-Chief

Bush on the Strategic Oil Reserves in 2000:

The Strategic Reserve is an insurance policy meant for a sudden disruption of our energy supply or for war. Strategic Reserve should not be used as an attempt to drive down oil prices right before an election. It should not be used for short-term political gain at the cost of long-term national security.

And just last week, Bush's Energy Secretary said the strategic reserve should NOT be used to lower gas prices.

And now Bush does the opposite. What a difference the polls make!

We also have Bush telling us how he's "the Decider," but an astute reader has e-mailed me the following from an interview in January of 2006:

SCHIEFFER: Well, let's talk about that a little bit. Now, some Democrats have called for a timetable for withdrawal. You have said that that's not a good thing to do because you're just giving the enemy the message, well, hang around until next date, we'll be out of there. But can you give the American people, Mr. President, some sort of a time frame, for example, where do you think we're going to be three months from now there, and what will troop levels be, say, come the fall?

PRESIDENT BUSH: You see, I--I can understand you wanting to ask that question and the American people, some wanting to--want me to give the answer to that. I can't give the answer to that because I'm not the--the decider. What I can assure the American people of is that we've got a strategy to victory. We got a plan to see that the Iraqis take the fight. More and more Iraqis are taking the fight, and I'm going to listen to our commanders.

  • Macswain:

Lemme try to explain this for you.

On some days, he's decisive: "I'm the decider."

Other days, he's indecisive,"I'm not the decider."

People like decisiveness. People don't like indecisiveness.

Low poll numbers equate to people not liking you, suggesting you're indecisive. His poll numbers would be even lower if he weren't "the decider."

    Any more questions?

  • Anyone care to take a guess as to who sent me the "I'm not the decider" link?

  • I'm telling you, Divine Strake. I read about it about a month ago, and cancelled my trip to Las Vegas in June. Check it out Macswain!

  • Flip Flopper-in-Chief? Huh? What are you rambling about--Kerry did NOT get elected, and he's the MOTHER of ALL FLIP-FLOPPERS!

    Macswain, you're a dupa.
