Ken Mehlman: Republican & Liar

Josh Marshall gives the breakdown on how Ken Mehlman "slices & dices" a quote by Joseph Wilson in a false attempt at making Wilson say Cheney sent him to Niger.

With his obvious manipulation of Wilson's quote, Mehlman does prove his bona fides as a true sack of shit. When can we expect his next promotion up the Republican ladder?

  • MacSwain has an amazing ability to jump from narrow technicalities to broad allusions and back again to "prove" that black is white.

The entire point of the critique MacSwain referenced was that poor Mr. Wilson was being smeared by "vicious right wing" allegations that he said Cheney "authorized" Wilson's trip to Niger. The transcripts were quoted to show that Wilson had only claimed that Cheney made a "request" that caused Wilson to be sent to Niger. Since the word "authorized" never crossed Mr. Wilson's chaste lips, this is clear evidence of a VRW smear.

But, wait a minute - according to the forces of truth cited by MacSwain, Wilson *did* say that a Cheney "request" sent him to Niger, but Wilson *didn't* say Cheney "authorized" the trip. MacSwain summarizes this as a "false attempt at making Wilson say Cheney sent him to Niger."

Is there a difference between "request" "authorize" and "send"? It seems to me that either they are all different, or thay are all mere rhetorical variatiuons. If they're all the same, then the VRW smear is merely telling the truth. If they're all different, then MacSwain is as guilty as Melman.

    We report, you decide.

With his obvious manipulation of Wilson's, Mehlman does prove his bona fides as a true sack of shit.

  • publius,

I was confused by your response until I realized I had posted the wrong hyperlink re the Josh Marshall post (I accidentally linked to the post below the one I intended).

    My apologies.

I stand by my statement that Mehlman is a sack.
