Yes ... the first show was set to simmer - laying the groundwork for future dramatics (despite the fact that one guy got rammed by a car, a gambler got whacked for an unpaid debt, one guy hung himself and Tony got shot by Uncle June).
Obviously, there are big things brewing with Chris, Carmela & Phil.
